HK - Inspirations

Costume:

We put a lot of thought into what mask we wanted for our child to wear, our biggest inspiration for our choice was the film 'The Strangers'
The mask's and costumes they wear are very simple and give a very chilling feel, by  combining the mask but the characters still wearing normal civilian clothes.

Also another inspiration is from the film, 'Batman Begins, is the character Scarecrow who has very similar mask to those characters from the strangers.

Both of the characters wearing the masks are the bad guys in the films and the scaryness of them straight away signifys horror. Both of these would be very simple to and cost effeciant to make so could be very easily re created into our coursework piece.

Casting Inspirations
For casting for our girl we are looking  for a conventional character that is known as a 'scream queen'
The term "scream queen" is more specifically used to refer to the "attractive young damsels-in-distress" characters that have appeared in a number of films in the horror genre.
One of the prime examples of a scream queen would be the actor Drew Barrymore playing Casey in the 1996 slasher Scream.

Scream Queens are always, young usually attractive females that are represented as
sexually active.

Cry Wolf opening

Published by RH

In the opening of 'Cry Wolf' there is a high angle ECU of a phone. This will benefit our film because we plan to use a ECU on a phone to show a text message. Aside from the obvious interest of a message on the phone providing a possible narrative enigma, this camera shot will be a fairly short take which will add interest to the audience.

We will use Todorov's equilibrium rule e.g. The girl is driving through the countryside (equilibrium), she receives a text message (dis-equilibrium) and finally she looks up and there is a man in a mask standing in the road, she swerves and crashes (new equilibrium). So from the opening of 'Cry Wolf' we have got an effective idea on how we can use an ECU on a phone to contribute to the horror of our film.

GG - A deconstruction of 'Halloween' (1978)

Director: John Carpenter

Box Office

Budget:

 $320,000 (estimated)

Gross:

 $47,000,000 (USA)
  • At the start we see '1.58 minutes' worth of credits. It is in orange writing with a black background which helps signify the genre horror, also signifying evil and sadness. Non diegetic music is used to help build up the tension, this gets the viewers heart beat pumping with nerves. We could use this in our production when we are building up to a significant scene in our film. We then see the camera gradually move towards the pumpkin, going from a long shot to an extreme close-up finally traveling through the eye of the pumpkin. This helps provide anchorage for the film title of 'Halloween.'
